About Us

Who are we?

The German speaking Protestant Community in Singapore is the largest German-speaking expat protestant congregation in South East Asia.  Regular services in the German language have been held in Singapore since 1972 and the Community was formalised in 1980.

Today we have about 100 members, many of whom are young families with children - and we continue to grow ….

Our congregation receives limited support from outside sources and therefore has to finance itself. About 10 years ago a church hall was purchased which has happily now almost been paid off.

Our umbrella organisation is the Orchard Road Presbyterian Church, a unique body where English, Indonesian, Chinese and German language communities work together under one roof.

Two congregations in Malaysia are part of our community: Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

What is our aim?

Our aim is to provide German speaking protestant Christians a spiritual home. We believe that the Christian faith is a living faith.  A hands-on and contemporary approach to faith is therefore important to us.

At the same time we meet the different cultures and religions found here in Singapore with respect and tolerance, and seek a dialogue with them.

And this is what we do:

Central to our community life is the Sunday service. A children's service runs parallel to the main service, and the work with our children is especially important to us.

Radiating from the service is an array of other events:  The men's and women's groups, confirmation classes, our gospel choir, children's groups and many others.  Every year we also have a family retreat, as well as a very popular community fair.  This is normally held in September and attracts more than 300 visitors.

The annual series of Organ concerts provides us with an opportunity to bring our protestant heritage a little closer to a wider audience.  Our activities are open to anyone irrespective of denomination.

Our pastor teaches Religious Education at the German European School, and his work also includes regular and dynamic contact with diverse church and charitable organisations and German speaking institutions found here in Singapore and in South East Asia.
